Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic and Jack Draper Out as 2025 National Bank Open Draw takes Massive Hit!

Both Sinner and Djokovic have won the National Bank Open previously.

The National Bank Open draw took a massive hit as big players will not take part in the event. The 2025 Canadian Open is a pair of outdoor hardcourt tennis tournaments that will take place from July 27. Players will start their preparation for the season’s third Grand Slam event, US Open.

Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner and 24-time major champion Novak Djokovic have withdrawn from the National Bank Open on Sunday. Both players are currently going through a recovery process after a hectic Wimbledon competition in London.

Top Ranked Players Decide to Withdraw from Hard-Court Tournament

Jannik Sinner won the won the National Bank Open two years back and he would have aimed for second title in Toronto. Sinner was suffering through a right elbow sprain during the Wimbledon. He sustained the injury in the fourth round of the competition and required medical treatment against Dimitrov.

“I’m really disappointed to be missing the National Bank Open in Toronto, especially as I have such fond memories of playing in Canada. Winning that title in Toronto two years ago was the start of a really special moment for me, but after speaking with my team, I have to recover,” Sinner issued a statement.

On the other hand, Novak Djokovic has won this hard-court tournament four times and he would have target his 5th title but he decided to withdraw. The 38-year-old reached the semifinals of Wimbledon before losing to sinner in straight sets. Djokovic has reached the semifinals of the all three Grand Slam events this year.

World No. 5 Jack Draper has also withdrew from the 2025 National Bank Open. The tournament starts next week and it will be a warm-up event for the British No. 1. Draper will also not compete in the Cincinnati Masters which will be played in the second week of August.

“After Wimbledon I picked up an injury in my left arm, nothing serious, but I have to make sure it recovers fully for the rest of the season,” Draper posted on social media. “Unfortunately, I won’t be able to compete in Toronto and Cincinnati… See you in NYC!”

No. 38 Jordan Thompson will also be missed from the hard-court tournament. This year’s edition will run for 12 days and 96 players will take part in season’s first hard-court event. The women’s event will also run simultaneously with the men’s event in Montreal.
