Ruben Amorim didn’t hold back in his post-match reaction following Manchester United’s latest Premier League setback. The Red Devils fell to a 2-0 defeat to West Ham at Old Trafford on Sunday. Despite leading Manchester United to a Europa League final just days earlier, Amorim painted a stark picture of the current crisis at the club. The Portugese manager warned that his team is “losing the feeling of being a massive club.”

The loss marked United’s 17th Premier League defeat of the season, that has left the club languishing in 16th place, with just 39 points from 36 matches. No matter the outcome of their remaining games, United are already guaranteed to register their lowest-ever points total in Premier League history.

Amorim cut a frustrated figure as he addressed the media after the match, stating,

“We are losing the feeling that we are a massive club and it’s the end of the world to lose a game at home.”

“If we are not scared of losing a game as Manchester United and don’t have that fear anymore, it is the most dangerous thing a big club can have.”

I Need To Go if United Start Next Season Like This: Amorim

Ruben Amorim delivered a critical self-assessment of his side’s woeful Premier League campaign. Amorim said that he felt “embarrassed” by Manchester United’s current position. The Red Devil’s manager even questioned his own future at the club if the slump carries into next season.

Speaking after the loss against West Ham, Amorim didn’t hide from the harsh reality as he said,

“I feel embarassed when looking at the Premier League table. For me it doesn’t matter if we win the Europa League because the problems are much bigger than that.”

“I’m talking about myself and the culture in the club and the culture in the team. We need to change that. It’s a decisive moment in the history of the club.

“We need to be really strong in the summer and to be brave because we will not have a next season like this. If we start like this, if the feeling is still here, we should give the space to different people.”

Despite guiding the Red Devils to a European final, Amorim has overseen just two league wins since January 26, both against relegated sides Ipswich and Leicester. His team is now enduring a seven-match winless streak in the Premier League, their joint-worst run in the competition.
