Manchester United suffered their 17th defeat of the Premier League 2024/25 campaign following their loss to West Ham United on Sunday. Rubem Amorim, after taking over from Erik Ten Hag, has had a struggling season in the English League. The defeat to West Ham United now marks their worst season since 1971/72 in terms of losses.

The Red Devils suffered relegation the last time the club recorded 17 defeats. Moreover, with nine home games lost this season, Manchester United has dropped points in 12 games at Old Trafford.

Amorim’s first-season tally is heading towards one of the worst in the club’s history. The Portuguese manager, since joining in 2024, has managed to win only 10 of the 36 games played in the Premier League. Moreover, failing to win a game in the Premier League since March, the record keeps sinking with every defeat.

Record-Breaking Pain: 2024-25’s 17 League Losses

With two Premier League games to go, things could go from bad to worse for Amorim. Manchester United can finish with a total points tally of 45 points at most, which is also their lowest since the 19th century. Moreover, their statistic of conceding 17 set-piece goals (excluding penalties) in 2024 has brutally hurt them this season.

The 17 defeats included some shocking giveaways and mistakes coming together. Manchester United have come out second best in every aspect. With the home turf spark also gone, the points tally denotes just the type of season Amorim and his squad have had.

Football pundits and fans have raised concerns throughout the year. While many suggest that Amorim wants a rebuild in the squad, others have asked questions about the manager’s methods. Despite the struggles in the Premier League, Manchester United will March to the All-English Europa League final as they face Tottenham Hotspur later in May. With the UEL trophy being their only option to play the Champions League next year, both of these clubs will look to bring their A game in Bilbao.
