Argentina Face Brazil in World Cup Qualifiers Clash As Everyone Will Look for Lionel Messi, but Will He Play?

Argentina will face their biggest rivals, Brazil, in a thrilling World Cup qualifier in Buenos Aires on Tuesday. Lionel Scaloni’s team are sitting atop the South American qualification standings with 28 points. A win against Brazil could virtually seal their qualification at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Argentina are coming into this match on the back of a hard-fought 1-0 win over Uruguay. They are also boasting an impressive record, winning seven of their last eight qualifiers at home. They also have a four-game unbeaten run against Brazil now, including three wins and one draw.

Whereas, Brazil have been struggling in World Cup qualifiers away games. They’ve won only once in their last five matches – drawn once and lost three in the remaining games. Even so, they managed a dramatic 2-1 win against Colombia in their latest game.

Currently third in the standings, seven points behind Argentina, the Selecao will be desperate for a win to strengthen their qualification hopes. In this position, Argentina would need their strongest XI. Hence, everyone will be looking for Argentina’s talisman, Lionel Messi, after he missed the previous qualifier against Uruguay.

Will Lionel Messi Play Tonight Against Charlotte FC?

Unfortunately, Lionel Messi will not be a part of the Argentina squad for the clash against Brazil. Messi sustained an adductor injury before the international break began during an Inter Miami match. The 37-year-old forward was a part of this month’s matches. However, he was left out of Scaloni’s 25-man squad after his injury.

Messi reportedly suffered a sore left thigh during Inter Miami’s 2-1 win against Atlanta United in MLS. He scored in that match and was later seen to be in some discomfort. An MRI scan later showed the injury. There has been no news about how long it will take him to recover.
