The Los Angeles Lakers are set to tip off the 2025-26 NBA regular season by locking horns with the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. Having finished the previous season in the third spot with a 50-32 win-loss tally yet a disappointing playoff run, the Lakers will aim for a better campaign this season. Luka Doncic, acquired in a mid-season blockbuster trade from the Dallas Mavericks in February this year, will play his first season opener as a Laker.

However, the seventeen-time NBA champions enter the regular-season opener with a significant change. LeBron James, the superstar forward entering his 23rd season in the league, has been dealing with a sciatica injury, and hasn’t played a game for quite a few months now. While fans were hoping for things to get better till the season opener, it isn’t actually the case.

LeBron James’ Availability Status for Lakers vs Warriors Season Opener

According to the latest update, LeBron James has been ruled out of the Tuesday-night season opener against the Golden State Warriors. James, 40, was earlier sidelined from the preseason fixtures with a nerve irritation in the glute.

However, later an update revealed that he has been dealing with a sciatica injury in his right side. While the injury was expected to keep him out for 3-4 weeks initially, it was later revealed that the four-time champion is taking a patient approach and will return to court in mid-November. This will be the first time that the 21-time All-Star won’t suit up for opening night in his career.

With him on the sidelines during the season opener, the Lakers will lean heavily on Luka Doncic, who averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game in the previous season. In the preseason, he dropped 25 points and 31 points in two games. Apart from him, Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, Deandre Ayton and Gabe Vincent will feature in the starting lineup, as confirmed by head coach JJ Redick.
