Controversy erupts as Barcelona players criticize referee after UCL semifinal loss to Inter—Hansi Flick addresses media in heated press conference!
FC Barcelona suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Inter Milan as they were knocked out of the final four of the Champions League. After the second leg tie commenced with a 7-6 aggregate in extra-time, Inter Milan pulled a blinder to show Hansi Flick and his side the exit from UCL 2024/25.
The Blaugrana, who conceded only 13 goals in eight games, let seven pass through them over both ties against Inter Milan. Losing on thin margins, speculations around the referees and some deductions have been questioned. Moreover, the players from Barcelona have also talked about wanting a review of the contest.

After Inter Milan’s triumph over FC Barcelona, Manager Hansi Flick commented on having a bad day. Mentioning some of the decision-making and moving on to the next game, the German manager in his post-game interview said:
“It shouldn’t have happened this way. I don’t want to talk too much about the referee, but every decision that was 50/50 was theirs. That’s what makes me sad,” said Hansi Flick.
“The fact is that this team has the respect of all Europe. We look in the mirror and we are proud of our efforts and the way we play. We’ll analyse this match as we always do, and then we’ll see what we have to do. But of course, this is normal; it’s part of football and part of life.”
Flick also took time to congratulate Inter Milan on their success after the Press conference official declared the end of the session. Holding the media, Flick added:
“No, wait. I have to say something… Maybe I have been speaking about the referee, but I want to say good luck to Inter Milan. They did a great job. I wish them the best in the final.”

The Spanish squad showed strong disagreements with the decision-making in the UEFA Competition following the defeat. Eric Garcia, referring to some of the past incidents, quoted: “Everyone knows what this referee did last time we played here… We are proud of our match.” Midfielder Pedri was also one of the players to comment on the refereeing situations as he said: “UEFA should look into this referee’s situation. There are many things I don’t understand”

Flick, after what looked like a promising European campaign, will show up again next year. Currently, with La Liga’s fate in their hands, every match day will be a final for the Blaugrana.
Inter Milan is the first side to register their place in the Champions League final. Following their defeat to Manchester City in the 2022/23 campaign, Simone Inzaghi’s side will look to write a different story this year.
