Indiana Fever Sign Odyssey Sims to Hardship Contract After Season-Ending Injuries of Two Guards

The Fever qualified for the hardship roster spot because of season-ending injuries of their two guards.

The Indiana Fever signed veteran guard Odyssey Sims to a hardship contract on Sunday, August 11. They qualified for the hardship roster spot because of the season-ending injuries of their two guards, Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald. Notably, Colson suffered an ACL tear, while McDonald suffered a right foot fracture. They suffered the injuries during the clash against the Phoenix Mercury on August 7, and were ruled out for the remainder of the season.

The Fever, currently seeded fifth with a 20-11 record, are also without their star player, Caitlin Clark. Clark missed her tenth straight game due to groin injury as the Fever handed a 92-70 defeat to the Chicago Sky. In the ongoing season, she has appeared in only 13 of the Fever’s 31 games after never having missed a game during her collegiate career or first WNBA season.

Since the Fever were without Colson, McDonald, and Clark, they had no true point guard, but were unable to sign a player with a hardship contract. It was because the league requires the injured players to miss a game before the team signs someone new.

How Would Signing Odyssey Sims Help Indiana Fever?

Odyssey Sims has been in the league for 11 years, and during this tenure, she has made appearances with many teams. Sims has played for Tulsa Shock, Dallas Wings, LA Sparks, Minnesota Lynx, Atlanta Dream, and Connecticut Sun. She has averaged 11.2 points per game, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game in her 11-year long WNBA career. In the first part of the 2025 season, she was associated with the LA Sparks, where she recorded an average of 9.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.

At 33, Sims brings a wealth of experience considering she has played for multiple teams. Overall, she has played 304 WNBA games, making her familiar with high-pressure situations. She also has notable scoring and facilitating skills that make her a reliable option, especially when the team is without Caitlin Clark. This is not it, but Sims’ presence would also reduce burden on Kelsey Mitchell, allowing her to return to her natural shooting guard role.
