Canadian striker Jonathan David has officially confirmed that he will leave LOSC Lille at the end of the season. His departure will bring to a close a remarkable five-year spell at the French club. The 25-year-old announced his decision in a heartfelt video message on Instagram, thanking fans and the club.

David, who joined Lille from Belgian side Gent in 2020, has been a talismanic figure for Les Dogues, scoring 109 goals in 231 appearances across all competitions. His standout season came in 2020-21, when he helped guide Lille to a historic Ligue 1 title, dethroning Paris Saint-Germain in a stunning campaign.

“I wanted you to hear it from me, after five years at the club it’s time to say goodbye,” David said in a social media video. “I spent five amazing years in Lille. I know it hasn’t been the easiest. But I hope that my goals and my celebrations have brought you guys some joy and happiness. And it’s been a long and fun ride.”

Napoli Leading the Race To Sign David

David’s departure comes as his contract with Lille expires at the end of this season. It has placed several top clubs on high alert. According to reports, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, and West Ham United are among the Premier League sides monitoring the prolific striker, while Barcelona and Napoli have also expressed serious interest.

Barcelona’s reported pursuit of David aligns with their need to rejuvenate their attack, as club legend Robert Lewandowski nears the end of his career. However, Napoli are currently viewed as frontrunners in the race, with sources suggesting the Italian side has made advanced contact. The Serie A giants are seeking a long-term replacement for Victor Osimhen, and David’s proven Ligue 1 pedigree and Champions League experience have made him a prime target.

David will play his final game for Lille this weekend as they host Stade de Reims in the final round of the Ligue 1 season. Although he has yet to reveal his next destination, the striker is expected to make a decision soon after the campaign ends.
