“I’m Sick Of It” – Kelsey Plum Blasts WNBA Officials Over No-Calls After Sparks Collapse Against Valkyries in OT

Frustration follows controversial OT heartbreak

Los Angeles Sparks star Kelsey Plum was left frustrated after her side suffered a heartbreaking loss against the Golden State Valkyries on Monday. The Sparks forward went off in the post-game press conference, blaming poor officiating for the heartbreaking loss.

Kelsey Plum took shots on the officiating standards in the WNBA League. She claimed the referees ignored multiple fouls on her during the game, leaving her furious with the lack of calls.

Plum lamented, “I get fouled like that every possession. Rickea [Jackson] gets fouled like that, in the post all the time and they don’t call it and I don’t know what else to do. It’s really frustrating, though. They’re just coming and (expletive) swinging. And they just don’t call anything.”

She added, “So I am saying, I’ll get fined for that and that’s fine. And I needed to make more shots. They’re fouling the (expletive) out of me every single play. So I’m very frustrated with that and I’m sick of it. I’m sick of it, I don’t know what I need to do, I talk to the refs nice, I pray before the game. Like, (expletive), I’m over it.”

The Los Angeles Sparks star is not the only one questioning the WNBA officials. Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White also criticized the referees recently for their inconsistent calls.

Golden State Win Overshadows Plum’s Night

Plum’s frustration also stemmed from how the Sparks let the game slip against the Golden State Valkyries. Sparks and GSV both were off to a perfect start but the visitors had the edge leading 25-23.

In the second quarter, LA scored 21 points against Valkyries’ 15 and took a lead into the half time. The tale of swings continued between the two sides and the game eventually went into Over time. At the most crucial juncture of the game, Sparks fizzled out.

The Golden State Valkyries won the game by 89-81. Kelsey Plum had a game high 24 points but managed to shoot 7-20 from the field. If Plum had been more efficient, she might’ve avoided the post-game clash with the officials and gotten off with a win.
