The Oklahoma City Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves will take part in the most exiting Western Conference Finals series. It will also be a great battle between Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Anthony Edwards. Both players would step up for their teams to reach the NBA finals.
Ahead of this blockbuster clash, last year’s All-Star weekend interview of Anthony Edwards with ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith is making headlines where the Ant-Man was seen talking about the MVP contender, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Edwards did not hesitate to say in his previous interview and old video is resurfacing on social media.
It was in February 2024 when Stephen A. Smith had an interview with the Timberwolves superstar. He didn’t hold back when he started a comparison between he, Luka Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. He considered the trio future faces of the league.
“I think that’s dope because I think he’s exactly right,” Edwards replied when asked about LeBron James’ comments about being the future of the league. “Me and Shai and Luka (Doncic) for sure.”
Stephen A. Smith asked him how he measures up to Gilgeous-Alexander and Doncic, Edwards gave a blunt answer.
“I feel like I’m a better player, 100%,” he told Smith.

Since this interview, so many things happened for both Gilgeous-Alexander and Edwards. Both are just one series away to their first NBA finals and a potential chance of wining their first career championship. On the flip side, the matchup gets bigger now and it will be a most exciting playoff series. Game 1 between these two teams is set for Tuesday, May 20, at 8:30 p.m. ET.
In 2024-25 season, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 32.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game. On the other hand, Edwards averaged 27.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game.
