The exact price or build cost of a Formula 1 car is unknown. FIA rarely ever discloses any information about the financial details in F1. Red Bull has revealed the cost of an F1 car in their article. Red Bull Racing is an integral part of F1 having won six constructor titles and eight driver titles. They have revealed that an F1 car costs nearly $15.9 million to build.

They have further revealed the cost of some of the components involved in an F1 car. The steering costs around $50,000 whereas, the set of front and rear wings cost $200,000. The most expensive components, according to Red Bull, are the engine and transmission. These cost $10.6 million per unit and can only be replaced thrice in one season. The final estimate that Red Bull provides is around $12 to 15 million.

The Formula 1 cars used during a season come under strict FIA regulations. Hence, they have more or less similar costs throughout the teams of the paddock. One of these cars has just smashed the record as the most expensive Formula 1 car ever sold in an auction. The 1954 Mercedes-Benz W 196 R Stromlinienwagen is now the most expensive Formula 1 car. It was sold for the price of a whopping- $55.63 million in 2025. This car was driven by five-time Formula 1 world champion Juan Michael Fangio and Stirling Moss during the 1954-1955 season of Formula 1. Fangio won his third championship in this car.
