D’Angelo Russell made his return to the Crypto.com Arena for the first time since being traded to the Brooklyn Nets. Los Angeles Lakers survived in an NBA thriller on Friday night. The Lakers edged out the Nets 102-101 to end the three-game homestand with 2-1.
The former Lakers guard was not in the starting lineup for the Nets but was recalled from the bench in the opening quarter. Both teams tied at 17 points with 2:55 to play in the first period, as D’Angelo Russell checked in for the Nets and played for 27 minutes.
Austin Reaves posted a career-high 38 points and LeBron James finished with 29 points. The duo produced the last basket for the Lakers which helped them to take a 102-95 lead with 2:32 remaining. They supplied all the forces to the Lakers in a second straight win.
Meanwhile, Brooklyn Nets improved their game after a franchise-record 59-point defeat to Clippers. D’Angelo Russell missed a decisive 3-pointer with 2.6 seconds remaining. The 28-year-old scored 19 points against his former team while Zaire Williams and Tosan Evbuomwan added 15 apiece.

Russell, traded by the Lakers to the Nets, had a chance to win it for Brooklyn at the buzzer but couldn’t connect. He had 3 shots in the clutch time but he missed all three.
The 28-year-old guard is on a minutes limit for the Nets, who are 2-3 when he plays. Overall, Brooklyn Nets lost 10 out of 12 games since acquiring their former All-Star player through trade.
