Payton Pritchard entered his name into the NBA record books.

The Boston Celtics (49-19) recorded a narrow 115-113 win over the Brooklyn Nets (22-45) on Saturday, March 15 at the Barclays Center. The game saw Kristaps Porzingis returning to action after missing eight straight games due to a non-Covid illness.

In his first game since February 26 against the Pistons, Porzingis finished with 24 points and two rebounds to guide the side to another dominant win. However, the night belonged to guard Payton Pritchard, who entered his name into the NBA record books.

Pritchard added 22 points, six rebounds and three assists. He finished with 7-of-11 shooting from the field and 5-of-8 from the three-point line. With this, the 27-year-old, playing his fifth season with the Celtics, achieved a remarkable feat.

Payton Pritchard Set New NBA 3-Point Record

As Pritchard shot his fourth three-pointer, he created the record for the most threes off the bench in a single NBA season, with 219. With this, he surpassed the record of Wayne Ellington’s record of 218 threes created in 2017-18 with the Miami Heat.

Pritchard is the fifth highest scorer for the Celtics this season, and is enjoying his career-best average. Having played 67 games, Pritchard is averaging 14.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game this season.

Not only this, but he is also leading the charts for the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award across several bookmakers. Payton is heavily likely to take the trophy home with the odds of -275 according to BetMGM

Coming back to the game, it was a close contest between both the teams. While the Nets gave a tough competition to the Celtics, the latter maintained their dominance throughout the four quarters.

Jayson Tatum chipped in 20 points, eight rebounds and eight assists for the Celtics, while Sam Hauser and Jrue Holiday finished with 11 points, each. On the flip note, the Nets, who recorded their third straight loss, had Cameron Johnson leading the charts with 23 points. He added ten rebounds and six assists.

Keon Johnson finished with 21 points, six rebounds and two assists. Jalen Wilson and Maxwell Lewis finished with 15 points, each.

The second seeded Celtics will host the Nets in the re-match of their Saturday-night meeting.
