Houston Rockets forward Dillon Brooks has been suspended for one game after receiving his 16th technical foul of the NBA regular season. The league confirmed this information on Thursday (April 3). Brooks will serve his suspension in the game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, scheduled for Friday (April 4).
The foul that led to the suspension occurred on Wednesday (April 2), after Brooks kicked Collin Sexton in the groin area during the first quarter of the Rockets’ victory over the Utah Jazz.
According to NBA regulations, any player or coach who accumulates 16 technical fouls during the regular season is penalized with a one-game suspension. For every two additional technical fouls, the individual receives an extra game suspension. In the postseason, the penalty is only applied after seven violations.

After the game against Utah, Houston’s No. 9 jersey said he believed the league could rescind his 16th technical foul so he could face his fellow Canadian national team player, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. “Normally, situations like that are [considered] flagrant, and I think [referee Tony Brothers] made a mistake,” he stated.
Brooks is averaging 14 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists this season. He is the second player with the most technical fouls in 2024-25, behind only Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves (17).
