Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Historic Triple-Double Sends Milwaukee Bucks Past Philadelphia 76ers

Giannis Antetokounmpo dropped a record-breaking performance during the Bucks’ 126-113 victory over the short-handed Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday. The Milwaukee superstar highlighted a historic triple-double with his 35-point performance.

The Greek Freak delivered a performance for the record books as he became the first player in NBA history to record at least 35 points, 20 assists, and 15 rebounds in a single game.

Giannis Antetokounmpo finished with 35 points, 17 rebounds and a career-high 20 assists. He helped Milwaukee shoot 51.6% from 3-point range. The Bucks superstar is averaging 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds. and 6.2 assists per game in regular season on 60.2% shooting.

Philadelphia held a 14-point advantage after opening quarter but Milwaukee sparked a 15-0 run in the beginning of the second quarter to break the lead. The score was tied at 85 points and the Bucks outscored the 76ers in fourth to take the game.

Apart from Giannis, Brook Lopez scored 17 points, and Kyle Kuzma added 16 for the Bucks. AJ Green chipped in 12 points and four 3-pointers. Assistant coach Darvin Ham took over in place of Doc River, who left the bench in the first half, citing an illness.

Rookie Adem Bona scored a career-high 28 points on 13-for-15 shooting. Quentin Grimes added 24 points with 10 assists, and Guerschon Yabusele had 22.

Meanwhile, Damian Lillard missed one more game due to DVT in his right calf. He is out from the NBA action since Mar. 18. The 34-year-old might not be out for the extended period for this type of injury.

“We decided against it. We had a great report the other day… The numbers are phenomenal”, Bucks coach said on Lillard’s injury. “And why mess with it? It was our thing. Why fly him or anything? It could affect that. … We have much more hope today than we did three days ago.“

With this win, the Bucks improved to 42-34 and are tied with the Piston for the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference. The win was Doc Rivers’ 1,156th regular-season coaching victory, breaking a tie with Phil Jackson for seventh in NBA history.
