Tyrese Maxey Injury Update: Philadelphia 76ers’ Guard Out for the Season With Finger Tendon Injury

The Playoffs News Team

A season to forget for 76ers!

Last one out, turn off the lights! Now, Tyrese Maxey, the “last remaining star” of the Philadelphia 76ers, is also out for the remainder of this NBA season due to a serious finger injury, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. The star guard has been on the sidelines since March 3, but continues to feel discomfort and requires further treatment. As a result, 76ers fans are dealt another tough blow in a year of significant struggles.

Maxey’s loss further compromises the 76ers’ season. At 24 years old, he posted impressive numbers this season, averaging 26.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 3.3 rebounds in 52 games. His excellent performance earned him his first All-Star Game selection this year. However, the pressure on him also affected his efficiency, resulting in a field goal percentage of 43.7%, the lowest of his career.

A Season to Forget for 76ers

The 76ers currently sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, with a record of 23 wins and 53 losses. As mentioned earlier, the team has also lost other key players, such as Joel Embiid, Paul George, Eric Gordon, and rookie Jared McCain, making the situation even more challenging. With so many absences, the team has faced major difficulties on the court, accumulating a concerning losing streak.

Given that this season is virtually lost, the 76ers’ last hope lies in the upcoming NBA Draft. The team is fighting to maintain their first-round pick, protected for the Top 6. If it falls within the top six, Philadelphia will retain the pick, allowing them to acquire a young talent for the future. However, if the pick falls between 7th and 30th place, it will be transferred to the Oklahoma City Thunder as part of the trade involving Al Horford and Danny Green made five years ago.

Before their game against the Milwaukee Bucks, the 76ers have accumulated nine consecutive losses, 15 defeats in their last 17 games, and 26 losses in their last 30. This performance places the team in fifth place in the Draft lottery, two games ahead of the Brooklyn Nets, who hold the sixth spot. To increase their chances of keeping the pick, Philadelphia needs to remain among the five worst teams in the league.
