“Honestly, NO” – Jayson Tatum opens up about not feeling appreciated

In his recent interview with the Washington Post, Jayson Tatum shares how he is treated differently to other players.

The NBA is in a dire need of a face of the league. However, multiple stars like Anthony Edwards have refused to be the one. With LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant in their end of their career, rises Jayson Tatum who wants to be face of the NBA.

In his recent interview with the Washington Post, Jayson Tatum shares how he is treated differently to other players and is given unnecessary hate. The 2024 NBA champion also believes people will talk a lot differently about him if you take away his name from his accolades. Using the Player A and Player B analogy while comparing them on basis of their achievements.

However, Tatum has also backed himself to be the face of the league as he says, “What I bring to the game, on and off the court, I guess fits the criteria.”

Jayson Tatum on if he feels appreciated:

“Honestly, no… If you took the name and the face away from all my accomplishments and you’re just like, ‘This is what this Player A accomplished at 26,’ people would talk about me a lot differently.”

“Did he win a championship? Yes. Did he win gold medals? Yes. Was he always a part of winning seasons? Was he first team all-NBA? Those are things that you know are hard evidence. Yes or no. Face of the NBA? They can always debate. But it’s like, I check off all the boxes.” says Tatum on his case for being the face of the league.

The Celtics superstar has been a force to reckon with come the playoffs. He leads the league in most playoff points scored before age 27. The forward has played the second most playoff games before the age of 27 with 113 games, winning 68 of them (fourth-most). In the 2024 NBA playoffs, Tatum averaged 25.0 points, 9.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game and led Celtics to their 18th NBA trophy.

In the 2024-25 NBA season, Tatum is averaging 26.8 points and a career-high in rebounds and assists per game. The Celtics are 41-16 and are all set for another playoffs appearance. This will be the sixth-straight playoff appearance for the Celtics superstar.
