Seventh-seed Holger Rune will take on Terence Atmane in the crucial quarterfinal fixture of the 2025 Cincinnati Masters on Thursday. The Danish ace came through a walkover victory over Frances Taifoe, while Atmane made a biggest upset win of this tournament by defeating Taylor Fritz in a three-set encouncter.
Holger Rune was trailing 3-0 in opening set but came back to take the set. Later, Taifoe suffered an injury which forced him to retire. The Danish ace is yet to drop a set en route to the quarterfinals. He had a runner-up finish in the Indian Wells this year where he lost to Jack Draper. He lifted the Barcelona open title by defeating world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz. He has gone 13-6 in hard court events this year, including a success rate of more than 80% on service games. The 22-year-old also ranks 27th on ATP tour in terms of break point conversion, and sits just within the ATP Top-10.

Terence Atmane enter his first-ever quarterfinal in the ATP 1000 Masters event. The Frenchman beat top players like world No. 22 Flavio Cobolli, No. 52 Joao Fonseca and No. 4 Taylor Fritz en route to the maiden quarterfinal run at Cincinnati. He came through a qualifying event and became the lowest-ranked Cincinnati quarter-finalist since No. 152 Coric won the title in 2022. It was also his first top-5 victory which helped him to break into top-100 in the ATP rankings.

Holger Rune survived Tiafoe, the runner-up from last year, and he will be a tough opponent to tackle for Terence Atmane. The Danish ace can counter him with the power through the ball to exert control over the rallies. The Dane is a big match player but he has to prepare for Atmane’s mental toughness. He has beaten three top players in the quarterfinal journey and previous win over Fritz gave him a huge confidence.
Prediction: Holger Rune in three sets.
At 2/7, Rune is heavily backed by bookmakers, while Atmane’s 11/4 odds reflect his quality of making an upset. The numbers strongly point toward a routine win for the Dane.
