Grief in Singles, Joy in Doubles: Mirra Andreeva Storms Into Miami Open 2025 Final With Partner Diana Shnaider

The 17-year-old reaches her maiden Miami Open doubles final, which takes place on Sunday.

Mirra Andreeva’s bruises from her singles loss at the Miami Open 2025 may have been healed on Friday. Alongside partner Diana Shnaider, she has entered the women’s doubles final after a 6-0 7-5 win over Jiang Xinyu and Wu Fang-Hsien in the final four encounter on Stadium Court.

Andreeva has had a great start to her 2025 season. Having a long term goal of entering the Top-10 of the rankings, she has already managed to achieve that by the month of March. One of only two teenagers in the WTA’s Top-100, Andreeva is “well above her years,” as Martina Navratilova rightly evaluated. After winning Dubai and Indian Wells back-to-back, she was able to rapidly put aside a shock Miami loss to make the doubles final.

The Andreeva/Shnaider pairing has tasted success in the past. Both Russians, they represented the Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN) to win a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. They also reached the semifinal stage at the Australian Open earlier this year, but were ousted by top seeds Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend.

Mirra Andreeva Signs Off on Bitter-Sweet Miami Open By Reaching Doubles Final

Things at the 2025 Miami Open started on a high note for Andreeva. In her opening round, she beat Veronika Kudermetova 6-0 6-2 to continue her scintillating form. However, an inspired performance by American Amanda Anisimova meant that Andreeva’s singles journey in Florida was cut short by the 17th seed. “She’s doing amazing, having a great year,” lauded the 23-year-old while talking about Andreeva.

In their opening round tussle in women’s doubles, Andreeva/Shnaider had to battle hard against the all-American duo of McCartney Kessler and Robin Montgomery. After dropping the opening set, they made a brilliant comeback. Apart from another deciding match tiebreak in their quarterfinal, the Russian left-right pairing has reached the final relatively unscathed.

At 17 years of age, Andreeva is rewriting history with her consistent tennis. “I’d say I’m good,” said the Russian after winning Dubai, about competing with people who are older than her most of the time. “I play and train at the same level as everyone else. It was a bit hard because I couldn’t see my family that often, but now we try to travel together most of the time.”

Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider will face Miyu Kato of Japan and Cristina Bucsa of Spain in the Miami Open women’s doubles final on Sunday.
