Greece in Nations League Playoffs & World Cup Prep: Fixtures, Squad News & Key Matches.
Greece have been in outstanding form in recent times. They’ve won six of their last seven matches and have scored at least twice in each of those wins. Last year, they finished in second place in their Nations League group which consisted of England, Ireland, and Finland. They even closely challenged England for automatic promotion to the top spot.
They won all of their first four Nations League games before losing 3-0 to the Three Lions. However, they quickly recovered and ended the group stage with a crucial win in Finland. Under Ivan Jovanovic, Greece have built a strong reputation in the Nations League. They’ve won more matches in the competition than any other country.

They need to win in these two legs against Scotland to earn promotion to League A. The first match will take place at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus before they travel to Glasgow for the return leg. These matches are not only crucial for their promotion to League A but also as preparatory games for the World Cup qualifiers, where Greece will face Scotland again.

Greece are going for these matches with a big blow – the absence of captain Tasos Bakasetas. Bakasetas will be missing the games because of a thigh injury. To mention how significant Bakasetas is for the team – since the 2020-21 Nations League, no one has more goal contributions than Bakasetas (14) than Erling Haaland (22).
They will also miss the midfielder Dimitris Kourbelis who has been ruled out because of a biceps injury he sustained during training. Now, talking about the returns and squad boosts, Slavia Prague midfielder Christos Zafeiris has returned after serving a suspension.
On the other hand, the coach has relied on some youngsters as he has called up 18-year-olds Christos Mouzakitis and Babis Kostoulas and 17-year-old Kostas Karetsas. In the frontline, Club Brugge forward Christos Tzolis will play a key role. To mention how important he will be, Tzolis has been in superb form at the club with eight goals and five assists this season.
