Golden State Warriors Target Josh Giddey As Bulls Hesitate To Match Young Star’s Rising Salary Demands

Akash

The Golden State Warriors have emerged as suitors for Josh Giddey after reports the Chicago Bulls won’t meet his salary expectations. The Bulls like the Warriors are going through a sign-and-trade situation.

According to Marc Stein, Josh Giddey, who is a restricted free agent, wants a $30 million a year contract. Jonathan Kuminga has also demanded such a salary from the Warriors’ front office.

Both the Chicago Bulls and Golden State Warriors seem unwilling to meet their respective players’ current contract expectations. Which is why a straight swap is also being explored between the Bulls and the Warriors.

The Bay Area side has expressed strong interest in Josh Giddey who can help in the post Steph Curry era. He can also be added as a reliable secondary scoring option going into the next season. The 22-year-old averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists last season.

Giddey-Kuminga Swap Facing Serious Hurdles

Despite the reports, the Bulls might not be too keen to part ways with their youngster. Giddey holds immense potential, and the front office remains aware of that. Moreover, Bulls’ interest in Kuminga stems from the idea to pair the two backcourt youngsters.

A straight swap in such a scenario doesn’t make sense. Jonathan Kuminga would thrive with a playmaker like Giddey leading the offense. It would give a new shape to the Chicago Bulls’ backcourt.

Moreover, the Golden State Warriors are in win-now mode. They are looking to add size and with limited spending available, matching Giddey’s demands of $30 million a year would be difficult.

They already have huge contracts involving Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler. With the kind of cap space the Warriors have, getting a newer talent without shedding salaries would be impossible. They would again face a trade off between new faces or roster depth.
