The Warriors find themselves in dilemma!
The Golden State Warriors may find themselves standing at the crossroads, where they would have to choose between Gary Payton II and Seth Curry. Notably, the Dubs have only nine players on their roster even after a month into free agency. There have been indications that the seven-time champions might end up signing Al Horford and De’Anthony Melton. Not only this, but the future of their restricted free agent, Jonathan Kuminga, is still not decided.
If they end up re-signing Kuminga and bringing Horford and Melton on the roster, then the Warriors would have 12 players. Reports by Tim Kawakami of The San Francisco Standard suggest that the Dubs’ last move in free agency might come down to choosing between Payton II or Seth Curry on board. Though they can have both, it is highly unlikely owing to the number of guards on the roster.
Payton is a championship winner with elite defense. While he isn’t the same as he was back in 2021-22, Payton has surely found a stretch of 3-point shooting after the All-Star break. On the other hand, Curry is another skilled player who, despite his role getting diminished over recent years, has maintained his three-point shooting. He was shooting 45.6% from three-point range last season, his career best record.
According to reports, the Golden State Warriors have received “two concrete offers” for Jonathan Kuminga. Kuminga is yet to sign a new deal with the franchise and is seemingly exploring the options he has before landing somewhere. Per Shams Charania, the Dubs received two offers from Western Conference teams last week. Both offers involved a sign-and-trade deal involving Kuminga.

Charania stated, “I’m told the Phoenix Suns and the Sacramento Kings are two teams that have made concrete offers with the Warriors over the last week or so. They’re two of the more aggressive teams with Kuminga. And they’re also offering him an opportunity for significant minutes, a starting-caliber role in their lineup. And those are two things that he wants more than anything.”
Both Suns and Kings would be able to offer bigger roles to Kuminga. However, these are not the only names that have shown interest. Earlier, there were reports that the Chicago Bulls were also interested in signing the 22-year-old, who played 47 games for the Dubs this past season. He finished the season at an average of 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.
