Clippers Building Future Cap Room to Bring Giannis Antetokounmpo
Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumors have cooled this offseason, but some teams are quietly plotting long-term moves. The Milwaukee Bucks have been successful in convincing their star player to stay put for the time being.
But, the LA Clippers are already plotting a future move, according to Bill Simmons. The NBA Reporter has suggested that the Clippers are readying cap space to table an offer Giannis cannot refuse.
Lawrence Frank and the LA Clippers’ are gearing up to pursue Giannis Antetokounmpo in free agency during the Summer of 2027, per @ZachLowe_NBA and @BillSimmons.

BS: "I think that's their endgame. That Summer in 2027. 'Short term? Lets try to win. Long term? Giannis' and that's… pic.twitter.com/tqxzjLG6tJ
Bill Simmons said, “If you’re the Clippers, in the short term, you can compete with a puncher’s chance for a title. But in the long term, you have $20 million on your books in the summer of 2027. You just have Zubac, that’s it. They’re in the best position, [Steve] Balmer doesn’t care about money, I think that’s their end-game.”
It is true that the Clippers are best positioned to make a mammoth offer when Giannis’ current deal expires. The LAC front office has built a team around free agency and short contracts. By the 2027 offseason, Ivica Zubac will be the only guaranteed contract left on the Clippers’ books.
There have been never ending rumors about Giannis Antetokounmpo moving to the Bay Area or Los Angeles. He even spent his holidays in California a few weeks back. If the Clippers execute their cap plan well, they could build a title-contending roster around Giannis.
The Milwaukee Bucks’ worst nightmare will be losing Giannis Antetokounmpo through free agency. The Greek Freak was all set on his way out of the franchise, but a last effort meeting bought them more time.
The 30-year-old was convinced by the management in terms of a championship worthy roster. Giannis Antetokounmpo will closely monitor Milwaukee’s roster moves, and if they fall short, a 2027 summer exit remains possible. LA Clippers would be in the driver’s seat to take the Greek in his prime.
