Giants HC Brian Daboll Announces Russell Wilson to Start Against the Cowboys but How Long Should They Wait Before Trying Jaxson Dart?

Eric Divakaran

The New York Giants opened the 2025-26 NFL season with a disappointing 21-6 loss to the Washington Commanders on September 7 at Northwest Stadium, marking a tough start to Brian Daboll’s fourth year as head coach. Coming off a dismal 3-14 campaign in 2024, the Giants entered with renewed hope thanks to veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, rookie Abdul Carter and Jaxson Dart.

New York’s offense struggled from the outset, managing just 231 total yards, and Wilson struggling to make plays. The Giants’ defense showed flashes but couldn’t capitalize on opportunities on the offensive end, allowing the Commanders and Jayden Daniels to orchestrate Washington’s efficient attack.

Russell Wilson to Start For the Giants in Week 2 Instead of Jaxson Dart, According to Brian Daboll

New York Giants head coach, Brian Daboll told the reporters that the team is going to start Russell Wilson as the quarterback.

Wilson, who signed a one-year deal with Giants in the offseason, was not at his best in Week 1 against the Commanders he complete 17/37 pass attempts but only managed to get 168 yards, with no touchdown to show for. He was also sacked three times and was 4/11 on third down conversions. This leads us to question, if the Giants need to think about rookie Jaxson Dart.

How Long Should Brian Daboll Wait Before Starting With Jaxson Dart?

The New York Giants’ 21-6 Week 1 loss to the Washington Commanders , exposed offensive struggles with Russell WIlson as their QB1. However, Daboll announced that he will still start Russell Wilson against the Cowboys in Week 2.

Looking at the tough upcoming schedule for the Giants, as they play the Cowboys, Chiefs, and the Chargers, we believe that Giants should start Jaxson Dart when they play the Saints in Week 5. While Dart is excellent and has a lot of potential, he may not be ready to handle the best teams that are coming to play in the next few weeks.

Looking at the Saints, who are still dealing with quarterback issues, it is safe to assume that Week 5 could be Dart’s first start of his NFL career.

I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
