George Kittle Lands Massive Deal With 4-Year Extension

Devavrat Kulkarni

George Kittle's record extension makes him the highest-earning tight end in the league!

The San Francisco 49ers are having a busy offseason after a demoralising 2024 campaign that saw the team finish 6-11 last season. Marred by injuries to several key starters, the 49ers were never able to build any momentum the previous season, and with quarterback Brock Purdy’s impending contract extension, San Francisco has to deal with the loss of serious talent on both sides of the ball.

However, not all is lost as the 49ers have completed a 4-year extension with their star tight end, George Kittle, as per NFL insider Adam Schefter. Kittle has reportedly signed an extension worth $76.4 million over the next 4 years, which includes a guarantee of $40 million.

Earlier in the week, it had been reported that the 49ers and Kittle were miles apart from reaching mutual ground; however, the latest news confirms that was not the case. Kittle was also present for the team’s offseason conditioning, indicating that all was fine between both parties.

George Kittle Extension Details

Heading into the final year of his five-year rookie extension, Kittle’s new contract will see him remain with the Bay Area team until the end of the 2029 season, following which he will become a free agent.

Drawing an average annual salary of $19.1 million, Kittle now becomes the highest-earning tight end in the league both in terms of average salary and total compensation. At $19.1 million per year, this puts him just slightly above the Arizona Cardinals’ Trey McBridge, who recently received a new deal worth $19 million per year.

Seen as one of the top tight ends in the modern-day league, Kittle, the 31-year-old, now has the chance of keeping his dream of playing only for the 49ers alive with this extension. By the end of this contract, the 6-time Pro Bowler would be well into his mid-thirties and could be pondering his retirement as well.

Be that as it may, Kittle and the 49ers would be looking to bounce back this season as they look to get back to winning ways and make a push for the playoffs.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
