The New York Jets and their star wide receiver, Garrett Wilson, have reached an agreement for a 4-year contract extension, as reported by NFL insider Adam Schefter. This extension comes after the Jets picked up Wilson’s fifth-year option.

Wilson, who will be starting his fourth season in the league, is now locked in for the foreseeable future. The new contract extension will take effect only in 2027, which means he is set to remain with the Jets till 2030.

Jets receiver Garrett Wilson signed a new 4-year contract extension worth $130 million, which includes $90 million in guaranteed money. The 4-year deal average comes out to $32.5 million, which makes him the first receiver in the league to earn an average of over $31 million after just three seasons in the NFL.

The first-round draft pick from 2022 has been a key component of the Jets offense, shouldering responsibility from his rookie season itself. In fact, following his 1,103 receiving yards with 4 touchdowns from 83 receptions in his rookie season, Wilson was declared the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Since then, Wilson has put back-to-back 1,000-plus yards receiving seasons in his second and third years as well. He is not only a dependable pass-catcher, but he has also shown his durability. In his three seasons, Wilson has yet to miss a game, with 3,249 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns from 51 games.

Furthermore, this extension makes great sense as Wilson has been able to achieve this success without a true franchise quarterback. Subpar quarterback play has no doubt held Wilson back to a certain extent, but even then, he has shown what he is capable of.

Where Does Garrett Wilson’s Extension Rank Among Highest-Paid Wide Receivers?

The Ohio State Buckeye alum’s 4-year deal with an AAV of $32.5 million makes him one of the highest-paid receivers in the league. Although he is not at the top of the receivers’ pile, Wilson’s current contract places him in the fifth overall position amongst all active receivers.

Leading the charge is the Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase, whose recently signed contract has an average annual salary of $40.25M. Next on the list is the Vikings’ star receiver, Justin Jefferson with an average annual salary of $35M, who is closely followed by the Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb at $34M. Number four on the list is the Steelers’ new signing, DK Metcalf, who is earning $33M per year.
