The winner faces Andrey Rublev in Round-2.
Partially a home favourite at the event, Frenchman Gael Monfils begins his 2025 ATP Monte Carlo Masters campaign against Fabian Marozsan of Fabian Marozsan of Hungary on Monday. The two players have come up against each other twice in the past, with their encounters proving to be sure shot entertainers. With neither of them in the world’s Top-40 at the moment, this low rank high profile match-up promises a lot.
Gael Monfils beat American Sebastian Korda en route to a Round of 32 appearance at Indian Wells, before coming up short against the same opponent in Miami. The 38-year-old has picked up one title in 2025 – which came at the ASB Classic in Auckland. He has a 14-5 record this year, including wins against the likes of Taylor Fritz and Marozsan himself.

Currently No. 81 in the ATP Rankings, Fabian Marozsan toppled top seed Zizou Bergs in his opening round of qualifying en route to the main draw. The Hungarian also has a few noteworthy wins this season, with Andrey Rublev and Frances Tiafoe being some of the big fish he has run through. Coincidentally, Rublev is the next hurdle for whoever emerges victorious in this Round-1 tussle.
The head to head record between Gael Monfils and Fabian Marozsan is tied at 1-1.
In this battle of generations, Monfils won the most recent of the two matches against his 25-year-old counterpart. With a career win-loss of 579-340, ‘Le Monf’ is a certified veteran on tour. Despite being a rivalry that started only in 2024, Marozsan and Monfils have already played out two thrillers that went the distance.

With a spot in Round-2 at stake, the higher ranked player of the two begins as the firm favourite. Monfils will look to continue his formidable start to the 2025 season, and book his place to face Rublev in the next round. Although Marozsan is high on confidence after coming through qualifying, the power and guile of Monfils could prove to be too much for him to deal with.
