Arsenal are facing an unwelcome defensive concern after Gabriel Magalhaes suffered a thigh injury while on international duty with Brazil. This has raised doubts over his availability for several key fixtures. The centre-back was forced off during a friendly against Senegal at the Emirates Stadium.
He seemed to be feeling discomfort in his right upper leg before limping to the sidelines. He later remained in London instead of travelling for Brazil’s next match in Lille. Initial medical checks offered little reassurance. According to The Athletic’s James McNicholas, “initial examinations suggest he will miss a month or two.”

Arsenal have not confirmed a definitive recovery timeline for Magalhaes as evaluations continue. However, other reports indicate early fears of at least a four-week absence. It could keep him out for a notable stretch of domestic and European fixtures. The club is expected to finalise their prognosis after completing additional scans.
The timing is particularly challenging for the side sitting at the top of the Premier League and navigating a congested schedule. Gabriel has featured in every league match this season. He has formed a consistent partnership with William Saliba in a defence that has conceded remarkably few goals.

Without him, Arsenal must prepare for games against Spurs, Bayern Munich and Chelsea. It’ll be followed by meetings with Brentford, Aston Villa and Champions League opponents Club Brugge. If the injury persists, extending toward January, he could also miss clashes against Brighton, Bournemouth, Everton and a trip to Inter Milan.
Riccardo Calafiori is also being monitored for fitness. Several other senior players are also already sidelined. Hence, Mikel Arteta may need to reshape his defensive structure. Cristhian Mosquera has shown promise since arriving in the summer.

He is among those under consideration. Piero Hincapie is another candidate for immediate rotation. Ben White or even the recovering Jurrien Timber could also be called upon depending on the evolving injury situation. Depth concerns have become a recurring theme for Arsenal this season.
Especially with injuries to Martin Odegaard, Noni Madueke, Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres. All these injuries have stretched the squad across all competitions. Gabriel’s absence serves as an untimely reminder of how integral he has become to Arsenal’s recent defensive solidity.
