Liverpool suffers their second defeat of the Premier League 2024/25 Campaign.
Liverpool took a slight hit towards their Premier League title after an away defeat to Fulham on Sunday. After Alexis Mac-Allister opened the scoring in the first 15 minutes, it was a tough first half for the Reds at the Craven Cottage. Thanks to the goals from Ryan Sessegnon, Alex Iwobi and Rodrigo Muniz, Fulham went into the half-time being 3-1 up to Liverpool.
Coamhin Kelleher struggled on goal in the absence of Alisson Becker as the league leaders conceded thrice in the first half. The Reds lost their 26-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League following the defeat. Giving the ball away cheaply, Arne Slot’s team was far from their best today in the first half.
Fulham jumped to the eighth position after they triumphed over Liverpool on Sunday. Trailing only by three points to fifth-placed Manchester City, they could cause troubles in the upper half of the table. Whereas, Liverpool after suffering their second defeat are reduced to 11 points clear of Arsenal.

Arne Slot whose side looked second-best after scoring, had a positive start to the second half. However, Fulham soaked all the attacks one by one. Reflecting on what was their first defeat in the Premier League in around seven months, the Dutch manager told Sky Sports:
“It was a difficult 14-minute period, conceding three goals. Apart from Fulham’s quality and finishing, it was mostly down to our mistakes.”
Luis Diaz coming from the bench pulled one back for Liverpool in the second half. However, the Columbian’s effort still wasn’t enough as Liverpool kept knocking. Speaking on the final third of the game, Slot continued:
“Unfortunately we lacked time in the end to score a third. People want to make stories which is their job. Many teams find it difficult to play Fulham. The second-half performance was outstanding. We had chances but in the end, we lacked time.”
Liverpool has stumbled since coming back from the exit from the Champions League. When asked if it was the nervousness from the end of the season, Slot told Bein Sports:
“No, it’s not the first time we have had a difficult game. Eight of the 10 times we are on the right side of the score.
“Today we faced a good Fulham team, we made three mistakes and they punished us. We came back strong in the second half but it certainly wasn’t enough”
Aiming at what will be the second Premier League title, Liverpool has rarely stumbled this season. While Fulham possessed a constant threat, the Reds’ defensive lines were not seen at their best.
Liverpool losing three of their last four games has come as a surprise to everyone. With the team having such a stellar record till March, Slot and his men must be feeling the nerves of being so close to the title. However, this defeat to Fulham can be considered barely as a setback given their lead at the top of the table.
