Freddie Freeman on IL with ankle injury after shower 'mishap'

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ scorching start to the 2025 season has been overshadowed by an unexpected setback – Freddie Freeman’s early-season injury. The reigning World Series MVP has landed on the 10-day injured list with a right ankle issue, delaying his return to the lineup after an already disrupted start to the year.

The injury stems from an unusual source, Freeman reportedly slipped in the shower at home, an incident described as a “little mishap” by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. The Dodgers made the IL move retroactive to March 31, though they have yet to announce a corresponding roster move.

Freeman has played just three games this season, missing both contests of the Japan Series due to rib discomfort. That absence echoed his struggles with a rib injury during the 2024 postseason, when he powered through pain to help the Dodgers secure a championship. His latest setback comes on the same ankle that underwent debridement surgery in December to remove loose bodies, adding an extra layer of concern for the team and its fans.

Initially, Roberts expressed optimism that Freeman would return to the lineup for the upcoming weekend series against the Philadelphia Phillies. However, with the IL designation, the first baseman will now be out until at least April 10, ruling him out of next week’s games against the Washington Nationals as well. That means Freeman will also miss the Dodgers’ scheduled White House visit during their trip to the nation’s capital.
