The Los Angeles Lakers are entering a defining stretch in this year’s offseason market. The rumor mill around star player LeBron James is high and teams have been put on alert due to the developing situation.

James’ agent Rich Paul, per ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, did not shut down the exit rumors. This has intensified the swirl of offseason speculation surrounding the Lakers. LeBron recently exercised his $52.5 million player option.

Dave McMenamin said, “[Rich Paul] told me that he has not had any discussion with the Lakers about wanting a trade. He did say that four teams have contacted him in the last 24 hours wanting to talk trade, but Rich didn’t have any substantiative conversations with those teams, either.”

McMenamin added, “LeBron is focused on playing on a championship-caliber roster. We’ll see in a week from now, when Rob Pelinka is finished doing his work with this roster, if it looks like a winning, realistic situation.”

One-week Clock Starts on LeBron Talks

Rather than dismissing the rumors, Rich Paul stoked the fire by suggesting a trade could be on the table. He has suggested that LeBron James will decide after Rob Pelinka shapes the roster in a week. Rather than any incoming, Lakers are closer towards finalizing a long term contract with Luka Doncic.

The timeline here provided by James and his team is of just one week. Though, the offseason has just begun and there is plenty of time to make trades. However, LeBron James setting a one-week deadline strongly indicates he’s weighing a move away.

The 40-year-old, with retirement nearing fast, remains desperate to win one final NBA title. He is on five rings and adding another ring will further elevate his status, making him plus one ahead of Steph Curry. With four teams already making contact, LeBron James’ trade future could escalate quickly next week.
