Former Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley is reportedly no longer involved in the federal gambling investigations. According to reports by NBA insider Shams Charania, he is no longer a target of the investigation which was conducted by the Eastern District of New York. Notably, just a day before the free agency opened in June, reports emerged that Beasley was involved in a gambling probe and was under federal investigations. Beasley was on the verge of signing a three-year contract worth $42 million with the Pistons. However, owing to the investigations, there were reports that the Pistons were no longer interested in bringing him back.

As things went downhill for Beasley, the 28-year-old remained optimistic and shared a positive message with his fans on social media. In a video, he was heard saying that no matter how people might have turned their backs on him, he wouldn’t give up and vowed to come back stronger. It seems that his patience and positive mindset has finally paid off.

NBA Insider Shams Charania shared on X, “Malik Beasley is no longer a target of the federal gambling investigation conducted by the Eastern District of New York, his attorneys Steve Haney and Mike Schachter told ESPN. This potentially reopens free agency for one of the NBA’s top shooters.”

This allows the Florida State alum to re-enter free agency. According to reports by ESPN, several teams have also maintained contact with Beasley’s agent in the last couple of weeks. However, it remains unknown if the Pistons were one of those teams or not.

Would Detroit Pistons Still be Interested in Signing Malik Beasley?

As stated, the Pistons were reportedly looking forward to signing Beasley in a three-year deal worth $42 million. However, ever since the news of him getting involved in a gambling probe, a lot changed. The Pistons ended up pulling the offer, and now that he has been cleared of all the accusations, it has already cost him a huge sum. They ended up pivoting to Caris LeVert and Duncan Robinson, so even if they are interested in signing him, they don’t have much to offer.

According to reports by Bobby Marks, Detroit could also offer him $7.2 million and there are other teams that could potentially offer him more. It is to be seen what the other teams have to offer to Beasley, and where does he end up landing.
