Lewis Hamilton's former boss highlights his struggles with Ferrari in 2025
Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton are a well known pairing of Formula 1. The duo had to separate after a successful stint in F1 which lasted more than a decade. Wolff has struck gold with his newest driver who is proving himself at the front of the grid. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton is struggling badly with his new team. The first half of the F1 2025 season nears its end and Hamilton is yet to secure a podium.
His struggles are being particularly criticized in the media. Evidently, Hamilton was beat by his teammate in the last few seasons at Mercedes. The same is happening to him at Ferrari. While Toto Wolff is a strict supporter of his former driver, his interview highlights the major factors behind Hamilton’s 2025 woes with Ferrari.
In the Bloomberg Hot Pursuit podcast, Toto Wolff was asked about the performance of his former driver, Lewis Hamilton. Lewis Hamilton is in the spotlight since the first race of the season. His new stint with Ferrari is one of the greatest driver signings in Formula 1 history. Unfortunately for him, his results in 2025 do not represent the same.
The entire paddock is debating the performance and pace of Lewis Hamilton during races in 2025. Toto Wolff had previously called out the critics questioning Hamilton’s performance. In the podcast, Wolff has put forward three major factors which might be at play in Ferrari for Lewis.

“Just by changing teams, suddenly you don’t lose your skills.”

“Everybody needs a period of adaptation: different car, different DNA in how the vehicle drives, a new engineering team that you need to start working together. Then you have to be involved in the continuous development of the car so it suits your driving style. It’s an all-Italian team, and he’s a British guy parachuted in there. And that takes time.”
“Also, we’ve seen a bit of a pattern that Lewis, at the beginning of the season, needs to find his mojo and the second half of the season has always been very strong.”
Toto Wolff also left a warning message for the critics. They should not ignore Lewis Hamilton so easily. The seven-time champion is going to make his comeback soon, according to Wolff. Lewis had a terrible weekend in Canada. He is calling for major upgrades to his Ferrari to compete at the front of the grid. Hamilton teased that Ferrari had something in plan for Austrian GP but he does not know the details. Either way, Hamilton needs to get back on track, or the 2025 season might end up as his worst in Formula 1.
I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university's Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
