“Expecting Huge Things From Novak Djokovic”: Serbian Icon Handed Huge Boost By Former World No. 1 Ahead of Wimbledon 2025

The Djoker is a 7-time champion at Wimbledon.

With the 2025 Wimbledon Championships approaching, the draw has been a huge talking point. Former World No. 1 and 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic has been dealt with a tricky deck of cards, and will need to navigate a tough path to reach the final. As the doubts loom, ‘Nole’ has received an injection of confidence by Mats Wilander.

After a harsh start to the 2025 campaign, Djokovic managed to capture his elusive 100th ATP Tour-level trophy at the Geneva Open. He overcame the likes of Cameron Norrie and Hubert Hurkacz en route to the championship. The 38-year-old also reached the semifinal at Roland Garros, before being eliminated by Jannik Sinner. He now turns to the hallowed grass courts in England to bid for his first major in two years.

Novak Djokovic ‘Expected to Play Better at Wimbledon Than French Open’

Djokovic is a 7-time champion at SW19. He won the golden trophy on four occasions between 2018-2022, and is chasing Roger Federer’s record of 8 titles at Wimbledon. He enjoys the fast-paced courts on grass, and uses his impeccable footwork and change of direction to the fullest. Ahead of the 138th edition of the competition, former World No. 1 Mats Wilander lauded Djokovic for his performances at the English capital over the years.

“I expect Novak Djokovic to play as well or maybe better at Wimbledon than he did at the French Open,” said Wilander. The Swedish legend also placed his bets on World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz more recently. “Let’s be honest, when he has had to play great, he has played great in all the majors this year. Suddenly, he goes to his favourite surface, most probably his favourite tournament.”

“He’s so good when the grass is green – Novak – because the balance in his feet is incredible. And he just plays so smart. So I’m expecting huge things from Novak Djokovic.” Provided he attains the ultimate glory at Wimbledon this year, he will earn a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam trophy.
