Chelsea after their 1-0 triumph over Nottingham Forest on the final day of the Premier League secured the Champions League spot. Finishing fourth above Newcastle thanks to the goal from Levi Colwill, Enzo Maresca and his side will head to their first UCL since the 2022/23 season.

Maresca who took over the young Chelsea side in June 2024 will look at the campaign as a successful one. Nourishing played like Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo, the Italian manager’s side has shown sheer strength when required this season. Moreover, Chelsea’s season could go to great from good as they will head for the UEFA Conference League finals against Real Betis later this month.

Maresca’s Chelsea Surge: Conference League Glory In Sight and Fourth-Place PL Finish

Chelsea started the season flying as Palmer took charge of the beginnings. However, the Blues slipped after the winter break failing to pick up some crucial points in the qualifying race.

Pulling things back in summer, Maresca and his side have lost only two games since early April. Managing points from Liverpool, Manchester United and Forest towards the end, Chelsea had just enough to seem through to the Champions League next season.

What Will Happen If Chelsea Wins the UEFA Conference League?

If Chelsea manages to win the Conference League finals against Real Betis, they will vacate their Europa League spot since their UCL qualification through the league. The vacated spot will not be allotted to any other Premier League club as per the UEFA guidelines.

Chelsea’s fourth-place finish ensures their qualification for the UEFA Champions League. Consequently, the UEFA Europa League spot they secured through their victory over Real Betis in the Conference League final on May 28, 2025, is effectively forfeited.

Chelsea managed to beat Djugarden 5-1 on aggregate in the semifinals of the UECL. Facing Real Betis in Wroclaw, Poland will be a challenge given the Spanish side’s stellar form. However, with players like Palmer and Nicholas Jackson at their best, the Blues could make it a one-sided affair.
