After taking a month off from tennis, Emma Raducanu will kick off her campaign at the Madrid Open 2025 with a first-round clash against Suzanne Lames. The Former US Open winner hasn’t played since losing the Miami Open quarterfinal to Jessica Pegula in three sets. The British number two will take this event as the preparation for Ronald Garros.

Emma Raducanu participated in the Miami Open without her former coach, Vladimir Platenik, and made it to the quarter-finals after teaming up with Mark Petchey, her eighth trainer in the last four years. Raducanu has a chance to take over as British No. 1 if she has a good run at the WTA 1000 events in Madrid or Rome.

Her first-round rival from the Netherlands, Suzan Lamens, had a great campaign in the Rouen Open this year. She won four matches, including against second seed Linda Noskova, before losing in the semi-finals to Olga Danilovic in straight sets. Lamens is the current No. 1 Dutch singles player and already owns four top-50 wins this season.

On the other hand, Lamens also had a terrible record on clay this year, losing five out of six matches. The Dutch No. 1 has a 15-10 record in 2025. Both players will be under pressure, but Raducanu will find a way to win this game.
