All you need to know about the Round of 128 clash.
In her final Wimbledon charge before retiring, former World No. 2 Petra Kvitova will face a ginormous obstacle in the form of Emma Navarro in the Round of 128. The No. 10 seed is finding great rhythm on grass, and made two grass court quarterfinals in the build-up to Wimbledon. On the other hand, Kvitova is a two-time champion at the All England Club.

One of the most talented left-handers to grace the women’s game, Petra Kvitova continued to inspire tons of tennis fans by announcing her comeback after giving birth. The 35-year-old won Wimbledon in 2011 and 2014. A former bronze medalist at the Olympics, Kvitova possesses a miserly 1-6 record in 2025. However, she displayed shades of her past brilliance at the HSBC Championships. Czechia’s finest will be back at her favourite tournament to cause some upsets.
Semifinalist at the 2024 US Open, Emma Navarro broke into the Top-10 last year after a fine campaign. The New York-born young gun is a tricky customer due to her deceptively powerful shot-making ability. Navarro’s solitary championship run in 2025 came at the Merida Open in Akron – where she ruthlessly brushed aside the competition without dropping a set all week. She wins around 70% service games on this surface.
In December 2016, a knife attack left Petra Kvitova needing surgery on her playing hand.

Navarro and Kvitova are yet to face one another on the WTA Tour. It will be a battle between generations, when the 24-year-old and 35-year-old stand across the net. It will be interesting to see if the veteran southpaw can withstand the barrage of counters by her American colleague.

Despite owning a terrific record historically, Kvitova’s chances are slim at the moment. Her movement has visibly slowed down, and she is yet to regain the unmatched strike point on neutral balls that she once boasted. Navarro is a maestro at exploiting angles on the court, and will look to get Kvitova moving sideways to force her to make something happen on the run.
