Elena Rybakina’s Unbeatable Riyadh Run Delivers a Record $5.23 Million WTA Finals 2025 Prize After Outclassing Aryna Sabalenka

Rybakina crowns a perfect week with history’s richest WTA Finals triumph.

Elena Rybakina closed out the 2025 WTA season with authority on Saturday, winning the WTA Finals Riyadh and securing the largest single-event payout in women’s sports history, a staggering $5.23 million. The 26-year-old Kazakh went undefeated across all five of her matches, sweeping her round-robin group, edging Jessica Pegula in the semifinals, and finally taking down world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka 6-3, 7-6(0) in a high-quality title clash. The triumph marks her biggest win since Wimbledon 2022, and easily the most lucrative

Riyadh Raises the Bar Yet Again With a Historic Purse

The WTA Finals prize structure heavily rewards perfection. A participation fee of $340,000 sets the baseline, while each round-robin victory adds $355,000. From there, the numbers escalate sharply with $1.29 million for a semifinal win and a massive $2.54 million for the final. Only an undefeated champion can unlock the full payout, and Rybakina delivered exactly that.

Last year’s total purse increased again, rising from $15.25 million to $15.5 million, continuing the recent trend of financial growth. For context, Coco Gauff’s 2024 championship haul of $4.8 million was the previous record, and Rybakina has now comfortably surpassed it.

The tennis world as a whole has seen unprecedented payouts this season. On the men’s side, Jannik Sinner earned $6 million for winning the Six Kings Slam exhibition in Riyadh, the biggest single check of the year. But exhibitions don’t carry the same ‘official’ weight. The WTA Finals’ prize comes from an official tour event and carries the added challenge of earn-as-you-win, where every match boosts the reward. With both Sabalenka and Rybakina entering the final undefeated.

Saturday’s win caps Rybakina’s third career appearance at the WTA Finals, but it is her first time lifting the Billie Jean King Trophy. She also becomes the first player from Kazakhstan to win the event in either singles or doubles.

Born in Russia but representing Kazakhstan since 2018, Rybakina already owns a Wimbledon title (2022) and reached the Australian Open final in 2023. Sabalenka is already a three-time Grand Slam champion, and just two months ago, she won her own $5 million from the US Open.

My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
