Elena Rybakina Eager to Challenge Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner at US Open 2025 Mixed Doubles Championship

The US Open mixed doubles event will be played on August 19 & 20.

Former World No. 3 Elena Rybakina has revealed her excitement to face next-gen superstars Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz at the upcoming 2025 US Open Mixed Doubles Championship. The big-hitting Kazakh, who will be teaming up with Taylor Fritz for the competition, is a former Wimbledon champion from 2022.

Instead of the traditional mixed doubles event which is held during the US Open, this year’s revamped championship will be held during the fan week prior to the main draw. The tournament will be played across two days – August 19 and 20 – in a race to four games format. This big change was met with mixed reactions; while it enabled several singles players to sign up for the mixed doubles, prominent doubles stars lost their spot in the draw.

Men’s World No. 1 Jannik Sinner will be teaming up with US title hope Emma Navarro. Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz is set to partner former US Open champion Emma Raducanu. While there are tons of other exciting pairs to look forward to, the Fritz-Rybakina duo will be lighting up the tournament with their big serving. They previously won the Eisenhower Cup together – an exhibition event held before the 2025 Indian Wells Masters.

Rybakina Expecting Tough Battles Alcaraz and Sinner

Last year, Taylor Fritz was the runner-up at the US Open and ATP Finals. Currently ranked No. 4 in the world, he is among the best mixed doubles partners one could ask for. However, there will be some big names on the other side of the net. Ahead of the US Open, World No. 12 Rybakina spoke to Washington Press about the exciting mixed doubles event.

“I mean, it depends,” said a laughing Rybakina upon being asked which male players she is looking forward to facing. “I think Sinner, Alcaraz definitely. To see how they hit and feel how the ball is coming. But it’s not easy with each player there.”

Rybakina is currently featuring in the Citi DC Open 2025 at Washington, where she is also playing women’s doubles alongside Emma Raducanu (who is partnering Alcaraz at the US Open). Can Rybakina and Fritz overcome the rest of the playing field to emerge victorious in New York?
