Dallas Wings guard DiJonai Carrington landed herself in hot waters for her dirty play during a clash against the LA Sparks. Notably, the Wings hosted the Sparks in a dramatic matchup on Friday. The game saw Azura Stevens putting up 21 points, six rebounds and three assists to lead the Sparks to a 93-71 win. The Wings, who were playing their third game without star rookie Paige Bueckers, suffered the eighth loss of the season.

DiJonai Carrington led the Wings with 16 points, four rebounds and four assists. However, it wasn’t the reason she made it to headlines during the game. Carrington was involved in a dramatic moment that ended up sparking controversy. In the third quarter of the game, Carrington committed a rough foul by pulling Sparks rookie Ashlee Barker down by her hair. It was ruled a common foul later.

The incident sparked massive outrage among fans on social media. On X, one fan wrote, “Dijonai Carrington might be the dirtiest player in the wnba lmao if this was the other way around theres a 90 % chance folks would ask for a racial investigation.”

Another wrote, “Dijonai Carrington will never beat the allegations. Such a dirty piece of trash player.”

Following the incident, DiJonai Carrington’s message to the fans calling her a ‘dirty player’ went viral. A few days before the incident, the 27-year-old opposed the narrative and highlighted that she plays hard. Sharing a message to her fans on X, she said, “Yall fAnS swear i’m such a dirty player. I’m SO over this narrative bc if u really know bball, u know I jus play hard asf & never give up on a play. &yup, we challenged the last couple flagrants & got em rescinded bc I’m ALWAYS tryna make a play on the ball nun more, nun less.”

Coming back to the Ashlee Barker controversy, this isn’t the first time Carrington has made it to news for her rough style of play. Talking about the punishment, there is no word from the league, and it is yet to take any action against her.
