The Detroit Pistons have emerged as one of the most improved teams this season following a few straight seasons of poor performances. This is the first time since 2019 that the Pistons have managed to cross the 40-win mark. After finishing the last season as indisputably the NBA’s worst team with a 14-68 record, the Pistons have made a sound comeback, and they will hope to continue the run further.
Talking about the playoffs, the Pistons have had a very curvy journey so far. After a few continuous years of dominating performances, they have faced a stretch of struggling seasons, and the cycle continued.
However, now that they have found their rhythm, the Pistons will aim to continue it for the rest of the season as well for upcoming seasons as well. The Pistons made it to the playoffs with a 44-38 record this season, which earned them the sixth seed in the standings. They will kick off their playoffs campaign by locking horns with the New York Knicks in the best-of-seven series.
If we talk about their dominance in the league, they have been powerful team with three championship, but haven’t been faring well in past few years.
While the Pistons have been through several struggling seasons, let’s take a look at how their playoff journey has been so far.
The Detroit Pistons have played a total of 77 seasons so far, and out of those, they made it to the postseason 42 times. Their first playoff appearance came in 1950, when they qualified as the 3rd seed in the Central Division with a 40-28 record. In the playoff series, they defeated the Rochester Royals 2-0 in the Central Division Semifinals.
Later, they clashed against the Minneapolis Lakers in the Central Division Finals and lost 2-0. The Lakers eventually ended up winning the Championship.

So far, the Pistons have made it to the NBA Finals seven times and lifted the trophy thrice.

As stated earlier, the Pistons have played the NBA playoffs 42 times, and played the playoff series 77 times. In those series, they have recorded 39 wins and lost 38, making up for a 50.8 winning percentage.

The last time the Detroit Pistons made it to the playoffs was in 2019, when they qualified as the 8th seed in the East. They had posted a 41-41 record that season. However, their playoff journey didn’t last long, as they slumped to the Milwaukee Bucks 4-0 in the Eastern Conference First Round.
The Detroit Pistons have won a total of three NBA Finals so far. Their first win came in 1989, and they ended up defending the title in 1990. The third and the last time they won the trophy was in 2004. Since then, the Pistons have been able to make it to the playoffs only seven times.
Talking about the NBA Finals, they have had such seven appearances. The first time they made it to the finals was in 1955, 1956 (as Fort Wayne Pistons) 1988, 1989, 1990, 2004 and 2005.
