Another major blow for Spurs!
The San Antonio Spurs suffer another major setback in what was once a promising season. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, De’Aaron Fox will undergo surgery to repair ligament damage in his left hand and will miss the remainder of the season.

Fox initially sustained the injury before the season began while still playing for the Sacramento Kings. He dislocated his finger during training camp but continued playing despite persistent pain in his shooting hand. At the time, he stated that the issue was not worsening and intended to play the full season with his finger taped.

However, by late February, following Victor Wembanyama’s health-related absence, Fox reconsidered his stance. He admitted that he did not want to spend the rest of his career with a taped hand and that he and the franchise would eventually need to explore other options.
During a press conference on March 8, Fox revealed that the injury would be re-evaluated on March 17, when the Spurs face the Los Angeles Lakers. With team doctors based in Los Angeles, he noted that surgery “may or may not” take place on the same day.
Losing both Fox and Wembanyama within a month significantly diminishes the Spurs’ playoff hopes. According to Charania, the decision to proceed with surgery was made with next season in mind, allowing Fox ample time to recover and prepare for the 2025-26 campaign alongside Wembanyama.
Fox appeared in just 17 games for San Antonio, averaging 19.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists.
