Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton becomes the latest wideout to put pen to paper after he signed a 4-year deal extending his stay in Denver. The 29-year-old was heading into the final year of his previous contract, but the new deal will see him remain with the team that drafted him for the foreseeable future. Sutton was entering the final year of his rookie extension contract and will be earning a base salary of $13.5 million this year.

The Denver Broncos have extended Courtland Sutton for a period of four years. Sutton’s new deal will see him pocket a handsome sum of $92 million over the next 4 years. Denver’s leading receiver is now locked through the 2029-30 season, following which he will become a free agent.

Sutton’s $92 million contract comes with a $41 million guarantee, and his average annual salary comes to $23 million. This contract is a win-win situation for both Sutton as well as the Broncos. The Texas native sees a raise of approximately $8 million from his previous contract, while Denver gets to keep its best receiver without having to break the bank.

Sean Payton and the Broncos did quite well last season as Denver marched into the playoffs with rookie Bo Nix under center. Keeping Sutton on the team for the future was a wise move as the Broncos can now build around him while ensuring that Nix still has a solid number 1 receiver to throw to.

Courtland Sutton’s Rank Among Highest Paid Wide Receivers

The new deal for Sutton now places him tied for the 18th spot on the list of highest-earning wide receivers in the league. Soon to be 30 at the end of October, this contract is most likely the last big payday for the seven-year veteran. It also accounts for the fact that the Broncos didn’t want to pay him over-the-top money.

Of course, the highest-earning receiver currently is Ja’Marr Chase of the Bengals, who will be bringing home $40.25 million per year, a deal that was also finalized this offseason. Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb, DK Metcalf, Garrett Wilson, and AJ Brown make up the top six, with Brown making $32 million annually.

The SMU alum had one of the best seasons of his career last year, catching 81 passes for 1,081 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns. He will be looking to build his connection with Nix further as Denver aims to go deeper into the playoffs this time around.
