Cooper Beebe Injury Update: Cowboys’ center out with concussion; Overshown, Goodwin also sidelined

Natasha Bose

Cowboys hit by injuries to Beebe, Overshown, and Goodwin

The Dallas Cowboys continue to battle injury woes. Center Cooper Beebe is out after sustaining a concussion during Monday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Beebe initially returned to the NFL game after being evaluated in the second quarter but was ruled out following further tests at halftime. Before this, he had played 837 of 838 offensive snaps this season. Beebe, a third-round draft pick, secured the starting center job in training camp, beating out Brock Hoffman.

With Cooper Beebe sidelined, Hoffman shifted from right guard to center, and T.J. Bass filled in at right guard. Right tackle Terence Steele is now the only Cowboys offensive lineman to have played every game this season.

The offensive line struggles worsened as Pro Bowl right guard Zack Martin landed on injured reserve. Martin is scheduled for season-ending ankle surgery on Thursday. Left guard Tyler Smith missed a game earlier this season due to a knee injury, while rookie Tyler Guyton has been plagued by multiple injuries. Though Guyton was active against the Bengals, veteran Chuma Edoga started at left tackle.

Hoffman, who had started the last three games at right guard in Martin’s absence, now faces increased responsibilities with Beebe out.

DeMarvion Overshown suffers another knee injury

But Cooper Beebe isn’t the only Cowboy sidelined. Linebacker Demarvion Overshown, one of the team’s standout performers this season, also left Monday night’s game with an injury.

Overshown suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter while trying to make a tackle. His right knee was pinned awkwardly under a pile of players, forcing him to leave the field with help from trainers. He was ruled out shortly after.

This marks another tough break for the 24-year-old, who missed his entire rookie season with a torn left ACL. Before the injury, Overshown made an impact with a crucial pass breakup that forced a turnover on downs. He’s been a bright spot in an otherwise injury-plagued season, recording 84 tackles, five sacks, an interception, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy recently praised Overshown’s potential, saying, “We’re just seeing the tip of the iceberg really. I’m so impressed with him, and in his consistency, in his approach, and that’s just going to keep putting him in the position to progress. Frankly, we need to give him more opportunities because he obviously can make plays from the edge also.”

C.J. Goodwin sidelined with hamstring injury

Unfortunately for Dallas, the bad news didn’t stop there. Cornerback CJ Goodwin also exited Monday’s game with a hamstring injury suffered in the second half.

According to Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Goodwin has been ruled out for the remainder of the contest. With Goodwin unavailable, Amani Oruwariye is expected to take on additional responsibilities at cornerback.

The Cowboys’ depth continues to be tested as injuries pile up on both sides of the ball, making an already difficult season even tougher to navigate.
