Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer will be sidelined for the next few weeks. Manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that the club will manage his recurring groin injury during that time. The 21-year-old was forced off during the first half of last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at Manchester United after his injury flared up.
Now he will be rested until the October international break. Palmer’s ongoing injury issues first appeared during Chelsea’s shortened pre-season following their Club World Cup triumph in July. The playmaker has started just three of Chelsea’s seven matches this season.

Speaking at the press conference ahead of their match against Brighton, Maresca explained the decision to prioritize Palmer’s recovery. He said, “We decided to protect a little bit Cole in terms of his injuries not getting worse.”
He added “We decided to rest him for the next two or three weeks until the international break to see if he can recover 100% and be fully fit from the international break. I don’t think he needs surgery; it’s just a matter of managing the pain in his groin.”

Maresca also stressed that Chelsea will adjust without Palmer. He highlighted that the Blues will bring in players like Tyrique George in alternative roles. He said, “We said that with Cole we are a better team, but we are not going to play with 10 players. We are going to find a different solution.”
Palmer will miss the following fixtures for Chelsea:
Palmer missed England’s World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia earlier this month. Hence, he could also miss these upcoming matches for the national team again:

Chelsea’s injury woes extend beyond Palmer. Centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo is also expected to miss the same three matches due to a calf injury. Wesley Fofana is set to be unavailable for the Brighton game after suffering a concussion in the Carabao Cup win against Lincoln City.
Other players, including Liam Delap, Dario Essugo, and Romeo Lavia, remain sidelined with long-term issues. Despite these setbacks, Chelsea will aim to return to winning ways in the Premier League after a winless run in their last two league games against Manchester United and Brentford.
