Rising Czech Valentova Takes on Home Favorite Paquet in First-Round Clash
France’s Chloe Paquet will face Tereza Valentova for the first time in their careers at the 2025 Roland Garros. Paquet, ranked No. 119, reached her career-best showing with a third-round appearance at last year’s French Open. Valentova, currently world No. 172, is making her debut on the grand stage of the red clay.
Neither player has claimed a WTA title yet, but both have found success on the ITF circuit. Paquet owns seven ITF singles titles collected between 2014 and 2023. Valentova also has seven, but impressively, five came in 2024 and two already in 2025. The contrast is clear. Whether the young Czech can overpower Paquet on her home soil remains to be seen.
This season, Paquet had her best runs at the WTA 125K events in Saint-Malo and Paris. She reached the round of 16 in Saint-Malo and made it all the way to the final in Paris, where she was edged out by second seed Katie Boulter in three sets. Most recently, she withdrew from Strasbourg due to an arm injury.
Holding a 14-18 YTD record, Paquet has hit 11 aces and won 60.1% of her first serves. However, her struggles are clear in key areas, converting break points at just 26.3% and winning only 12.5% of return games.

Valentova, by contrast, has been making waves on the ITF Circuit, showing impressive consistency throughout 2024 with several deep runs and title wins. She also claimed both the girls’ singles and doubles titles at Roland Garros in 2024.
Her 2025 season has continued in a similar fashion, though still limited to the ITF level, as she has yet to break into the WTA main draws. She earned her spot in the French Open through qualifying and holds a strong 20-6 record for the year.
Chloe Paquet and Tereza Valentova will be facing each other for the first time.

Given Valentova’s strong ITF form, recent success in juniors, and a solid 20-6 YTD record means she enters with momentum and confidence. If she can translate that level to the main stage, she has a real chance to outplay the inconsistent Paquet.
Prediction: Tereza Valentova in straight sets
