Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is expected to start Saturday’s game against the Houston Texans at Arrowhead Stadium, according to head coach Andy Reid. Patrick Mahomes suffered a high ankle sprain during last week’s 21-7 win over the Cleveland Browns but has shown significant progress in practice.

Mahomes was a full participant in practices throughout the week, with Reid confirming his readiness. “He did look good out there,” Reid said.

“He moved around pretty good. So, you’re always looking to make sure they can get out the way, not to further any harm to them. I’ve been through it with him before, and he amazed me every time he does it.”

Mahomes expressed confidence about playing. “You have to push it. That’s the reason you play this game, is to push to play. I’m not going to put our team in a bad position. If I feel I can play and go out there and win, I’ll play.”

Chiefs’ playoff implications

The Chiefs, sitting at 13-1, can secure the AFC’s No. 1 seed with a win against the Texans (9-5) and a Buffalo Bills (11-3) loss or tie against the New England Patriots.
