On Saturday, 06/21, the Chicago Sky (3-8) will host the Phoenix Mercury (10-4) in a WNBA regular-season matchup. The Sky has been lingering at the 11th spot while Mercury has shot up to the third position.

Can the surging Mercury stomp the down-in-the-dumps Sky squad? Go through the predictions related to player props, total, and spread here.

Where to Watch Chicago Sky vs Phoenix Mercury

  • Time: 1:00 PM (ET)
  • Venue: Wintrust Arena (Chicago, Illinois)
  • Where to watch: This game can be viewed on the WNBA League Pass.

Chicago Sky vs Phoenix Mercury Lineups, Sneak Peek

Sky: An unsuccessful season so far for the sloppy team

The Sky enters the game after a 72-79 loss against the Washington Mystics despite an 18-point, 10-rebound outing by Kamilla Cardoso. It was their fourth loss in five games. The Sky is yet to win a game against a squad with a 40 %+ win slate.

Angel Reese is getting back in the groove but needs to cut down on turnovers(3.9 TOPG).

Meanwhile, the Sky have committed 17.1 TOPG(worst) and are making just 6.4 threes per game (3rd worst). On the other hand, they are conceding the most triples (10.3) while allowing teams to shoot 46% FG(2nd worst).

Overall, the Sky have a huge Point Guard hole without Courtney Vandersloot, but they can still do better with the core of Ariel Atkins, Cardoso, and Reese.

Phoenix Mercury: AT-Sabally one-two punch has terrific support

The Mercury comes into this game after an impressive 89-81 win against the New York Liberty, as rookie Monique Akoa Makani scooped up 21 points. It was their fourth straight win, and they are now 8-2 with Alyssa Thomas in the lineup.

The Mercury’s addition of Thomas and Satou Sabally, as the latter has scored 20+ in most games. The return of Kahleah Copper, who missed the first seven games, has further bolstered the team’s offensive lineup.

The rookie class of Lexi Held, Akoa Makani, and Kitija Laksa has stepped up to rescue the team, too. Their defense has been impressive, and the Mercury are building a brilliant squad with major bases covered.

Mercury Expected Starting Lineup

PG: Monique Akoa Makani | SG: Sami Whitcomb | SF: Alyssa Thomas | PF: Kathyrn Westbeld | PF/C:  Satou Sabally

Key bench players: C: Kalani Brown, SG: Lexi Held, C: Murjanatu Musa,  PF: Natasha Mack,  SG/SF: Kitija Laksa

Injuries/Updates: Kahleah Copper’s status is UNCLEAR.

Sky Expected Starting Lineup

SG: Ariel Atkins | SG: Kia Nurse | SF: Rebecca Allen | PF: Angel Reese | C: Kamilla Cardoso

Key bench players: PG: Hailey Van-Lith, PF: Michaela Onyenwere, C: Elizabeth Williams, SG: Rachel Banham

Injuries/Updates: Courtney Vandersloot is OUT for the season.

Chicago Sky vs Phoenix Mercury Total Over/Under Prediction- WNBA Best Bets

The Sky is one of the worst-scoring teams. Chicago has usually been relegated to the 70s, and even reaching the 80-point mark is a big achievement. On the other hand, Mercury’s offense is thriving under Alyssa Thomas, both from inside and outside.

Meanwhile, their defense is good enough to curb teams below 80 regularly. I expect a strong effort from Sky here, and the total may go under here.

Total: Under 159.5 for -110 at BetMGM

Chicago Sky vs Phoenix Mercury Player Props Predictions- WNBA Betting Picks

Angel Reese O 15.5 points: Reese has averaged 14.25 PPG in the last four games compared to her season’s average of 11 PPG. I expect her to score 16 or more here.

Alyssa Thomas O 9.5 assists: AT has been doing a terrific job of serving the helpers. She has averaged 9 APG for the season, dishing 10 or more assists in four of the last five games. I believe she will turn up with a 10+ assists performance.

Ariel Atkins O 4.5 assists: Atkins has to take additional playmaking duties in the absence of the team’s Floor Manager, Courtney Vandersloot. She has dished 5.3 APG in the last three games, and I expect her to hum the same tune here.

Main pick: Rebounds: Angel Reese Over 12.5 points for -115 at BetMGM

Chicago Sky vs Phoenix Mercury Spread Prediction

The Mercury has fortified their defense and amplified their offense under two-way point forward Thomas. Meanwhile, the Sky lacks a similar impact player on both ends of the floor. O

Overall, the edge belongs to Mercury, which has much more firepower than the struggling Sky team. I believe the Sky will cover the 11-point spread, but still envision a 6-9 point win for the Mercury.
