Chelsea vs Brighton Preview, Betting Odds and Predictions – 27/09/25

Moumita Dutta

Chelsea are returning to Premier League action on Saturday as they welcome Brighton & Hove Albion at home to Stamford Bridge. Both teams advanced in the EFL Cup during midweek. However, their routes to win could not have been more different.

The Blues were forced to grind out a narrow 2-1 win against League One side Lincoln City. Meanwhile Brighton dazzled in a 6-0 demolition of Barnsley. The goalfest was led by a four-goal masterclass from their new summer signing Diego Gomez.

Chelsea vs Brighton Preview

Chelsea

Enzo Maresca’s men ended a brief winless streak with their cup comeback. However, doubts remain after their chaotic 2-1 defeat to Manchester United last weekend. Although notably, Chelsea are unbeaten in 12 league games at Stamford Bridge. They’ve gone seven clean sheets in their last nine at home.

Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez is available again after serving a ban, but injury concerns persist. Cole Palmer is battling a recurring groin problem but could return to the starting XI. Meanwhile Marc Guiu, Dario Essugo, Benoit Badiashile, Romeo Lavia, and Levi Colwill are still sidelined. Mykhaylo Mudryk is also serving a suspension, leaving squad depth stretched.

Brighton

Brighton’s stunning EFL Cup win has increased pressure on Fabian Hurzeler to translate that form into the league. However, in the league, his side have won just once in five outings. They surrendered a two-goal lead in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Spurs.

They are also yet to collect a single away point this season. Gomez’s heroics in midweek should earn him a starting spot, likely at the expense of Brajan Gruda. Injury-wise, Maxim De Cuyper could return at left-back, but Jack Hinshelwood, Solly March, and Adam Webster remain out of action.

Chelsea vs Brighton Over/ Under Predictions

Total Goals Over 2.5 @ -175 as per BetMGM:

Chelsea may be the stronger side at Stamford Bridge, but their recent form suggests they will not dominate Brighton with ease. The Blues struggled in their EFL Cup tie. They needed a second-half comeback to edge Lincoln City 2-1. Defensively, they remain resilient at home with seven clean sheets in their last nine league games.

Even so, their chaotic 2-1 loss to Manchester United showed vulnerabilities at the back. Brighton, on the other hand, have been free-scoring in cup competitions. They put six past Barnsley and Oxford in consecutive rounds. Despite inconsistent league form, their attacking strength means this fixture has the potential for multiple goals, justifying the over 2.5 market.

Chelsea vs Brighton Player Picks

Joao Pedro to score anytime @ +145 as per FanDuel:

Joao Pedro has been Brighton’s most reliable forward presence in the Premier League. He has consistently found pockets of space and created chances. With Brighton’s new signing Diego Gomez stealing headlines in the cup, Pedro will be eager to reassert his role in the starting XI.

Chelsea’s defense, though usually strong at home, was badly exposed against Manchester United in their last league game. Now if Brighton can exploit their shaky moments, Pedro stands as one of the likeliest players to capitalize. At +145, backing him to score anytime provides strong betting value.

Cole Palmer to either score or assist anytime @ -120 as per FanDuel:

Cole Palmer remains Chelsea’s creative heartbeat. He has regularly contributed in decisive moments. Although he is nursing a groin issue, his involvement when fit is crucial for Enzo Maresca’s side. Palmer’s set-piece delivery and ability to unlock defenses make him a constant threat. Especially against a Brighton team that is yet to collect an away point this season. Given his influence in both scoring and creating, the -120 odds for him to score or assist are well justified.

Chelsea’s strong home record and Brighton’s ongoing away struggles suggests a narrow win for the Blues. Brighton’s attacking talent means they are capable of finding the net. But Chelsea’s stability at Stamford Bridge should tilt the balance.

Final Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Brighton

Considering recent performances, a 2-1 result in Chelsea’s favor looks the most realistic outcome, with goals expected on both sides.
