The UEFA Champions League nights are back with a thrilling Madrid derby in the knockout stages. With a chance to secure a place in the top eight, the contest is predicted to be a fierce battle among the rivals. 

Real Madrid after finding their feet in the competition late are now in the driving seat after beating Manchester City. Their assured dominance over the English champions might be a boost in confidence going into this clash. 

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid under coach Diego Simeone, has shown the usual resilience and defensive discipline. Atletico Madrid lost only two games in the group stage of the competition as they are unbeaten in the last of their four European games.

The previous three meetings among the Madrid clubs have ended in a draw. Real Madrid who has not won a game against their city rivals since January 2024 will push to turn the books. 

Manager’s Carlo Ancelotti and Simeone are also tied in their head-to-head clash with nine wins to each. While El Cholo’s club has proven stellar this season, there’s a record of things not being the same with Real Madrid and the Champions League.

Atletico Madrid on the other hand has had a steady season in terms of injuries this season. Except for one or two of his veterans, Simeone will have most of his squad’s depth available.
